Sorrento Towers Food Court

Sorrento Towers Food Court is a popular lunch spot, and parking and getting a table can be a real hassle. As late as 1:00 we have circled the parking lot waiting for one of the tiny parking spaces to become available. To be fair, there is a parking garage, but they make it hard to get from the garage to the food court. There is an indoor dining area and an outdoor dining area. We always eat inside, where people are often forced to wait for a table to become available and then pounce on it before someone else gets it. Some people ask seated strangers if they might share their table.

The food court's popularity is in part due to it having a wide variety of restaurants, and in part due to it being in the busy business district of Sorrento Valley. Because of the hassles of parking and getting a table inside we had decided that we would not go there until at least 1:15, and never on a rainy day when everyone who is usually outside comes inside. However on April 26, 2001 we noticed a rather disturbing insect problem in the inside dining area, and because the food prep areas line the dining area and there are always "more where that came from" we decided not to come again at any hour — at least not for a long time.

Update

On June 22, 2001 we decided to return. We did not notice any sign of the previous insect problem. The parking lot had been re-striped to offer some parking spaces that are not as cramped as they previously were. The place was strangely quiet and uncrowded, more so than usual after 1:00. One thing we did notice this time that we forgot to mention before — the doors are usually left open and birds fly in and out as they like, diving here and there for scraps of food left behind. Having birds flapping around you and above you in an enclosed area doesn't make for a very relaxing experience.
