Good
Randy says: The cobb salad was good. I got mine without bacon. The smoothies were really good.

Jeff says: I got my cobb salad with the bacon, and it was good. The bacon was really crisp. The smoothies were delicious.

Randy says: The spicy tomato ginger bisque was very good. The prime rib was described as "encrusted with mustard seeds and cracked five peppercorn blend" but these were nowhere to be found. It did come with a rosemary sprig, which made up for it. Jeff's French onion soup was greasy.

Jeff says: I liked the French onion soup, which by nature is going to be somewhat greasy, and this one was no more so than I'd expect. The prime rib was ok, but I did notice that reheated taste.

The Sweetbrier Inn was the home base for Jeff's friend Jamie's wedding, which we were in the Portland area to attend. Since we were staying at the hotel and the menu at the restaurant looked good, we ate there several times.

The first time was the night we arrived. It was 8:45 p.m. when we entered the restaurant. There was nobody at the front to seat us. When we finally did get seated, nobody seemed to know we were there. A bus girl took pity on us and brought us some bread and butter, but it was a long time until anyone showed up to take our order. In the end we had to ask the hostess for a waiter. When one arrived he was very apologetic, and the rest of the meal went smoothly.

On our second visit to the restaurant, we stopped in around 11 a.m. to get two blueberry smoothies to take with us. We ordered them at the front, and we waited a very long time for them. We were told "something happened in the kitchen" but the smoothies were on their way and we were offered free beverages in the meantime. The smoothies arrived shortly thereafter and were gratis to make up for the exceedingly long wait. They were really good.

The night before the wedding we stopped in for dinner, and this time it was about 5 p.m. The service was good, and we think this is probably the usual state of affairs and that the previous problems were flukes.

The restaurant has a homey, country look with good food. It's certainly worthwhile to give it a try if you find yourself at the hotel.
